Heavy rain and flooding are causing mudslide and debris flow in northern Quito evening Jan. 31. Unconfirmed reports indicate that at least one person has died and another injured due to mudflow; several others are reportedly trapped under debris. Power outages are occurring in Avenue America, Colegio Mejia, La Basilica, Miraflores, and San Juan areas.
Further heavy rainfall could trigger additional flooding in low-lying areas. Continued strong winds could prompt further transport disruptions. Localized business disruptions may occur in weather-affected areas; some businesses might not operate at full capacity because of flood or wind damage to facilities and some employees' inability to reach work sites.
