Syria: Missile attack reported at Ash Shaddadi military base Jan. 30

Local reports allege a missile attack targeted the Ash Shaddadi military base, which houses US coalition forces, in Al-Hasakah Governorate early Jan. 30. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, although Iranian-backed militias are likely behind it. There have been no initial reports of casualties.

Increased security measures are likely at and near the base. Airstrikes, retaliatory actions, and further attacks are possible over the coming days.

Ash Shaddadi is approximately 50 km (31.1 miles) south of Al-Hasakah city.
