Shelling and a rocket attack killed at least four people and wounded more than a dozen others in the Afrin area of Syria's Aleppo Governorate Jan. 20. While no group immediately claimed responsibility for the attacks, Kurdish fighters are likely to have carried them out. Turkish forces reportedly responded to the fire by shelling areas under Kurdish fighters' control.
Further fighting, including retaliatory attacks between rival forces, are almost certain in the Afrin area over the long term.
