Jordan: Authorities to ease COVID-19 measures for international travelers as of March 1 /update 82

Event

Authorities in Jordan plan to ease COVID-19 restrictions for international travelers. Effective March 1, all travelers to Jordan will no longer need to take a pre-departure PCR test; travelers will also be exempt from undergoing a PCR test upon arrival at airports or any other entry points. Visitors will, however, be required to sign a pledge agreeing to get tested should they contract COVID-19 or experience symptoms of the disease. Individuals who test positive for COVID-19 will be required to undergo a five-day quarantine beginning from the date they took the test.

Domestic Measures
The Jordanian government is not currently enforcing COVID-19-related curfew measures. Businesses in most sectors can generally operate at full capacity. However, restrictions are still in effect for wedding halls, theaters, exhibits, and festivals. Social distancing of 1.5 meters (5 feet) is required outside the home. Wearing a facemask is mandatory in indoor public spaces, including on public transport. Unvaccinated private-sector workers must submit a PCR test every Sunday and Thursday; businesses in violation of this regulation may be subject to closure. In-person education resumed Feb. 20.

International Travel Restrictions
Through Feb. 28, all individuals traveling to Jordan via air or land and those transiting the country must have a negative result from a PCR test taken within 72 hours before departure for the country. Additionally, travelers to Jordan must complete a "Travel to Jordan Declaration Form" before travel and present the generated quick response (QR) code before boarding their flight and upon arrival; to access the form, click here.

All travelers to Jordan are subject to a PCR test upon arrival at their own expense. Children under the age of five are exempt from the testing requirements and from completing the Travel to Jordan Declaration Form.

Travelers are only required to undergo a quarantine period if testing positive for COVID-19 (e.g. during the required on-arrival test). Those who test positive for COVID-19 in Jordan but exhibit no symptoms are subject to a seven-day quarantine period at their accommodations and must take a day-seven PCR test. These individuals may exit quarantine immediately if the day-seven PCR test result is negative. However, if the test result is positive, an extra three days are added to the quarantine period for a total of 10 days of isolation. Individuals who test positive and are symptomatic are subject to a 14-day quarantine period. Transiting travelers who test positive at the airport may be required to quarantine at the airport hotel at their own expense.

Furthermore, foreign nationals must obtain health/travel insurance valid for the period of their stay in the country, and all arriving travelers must download the AMAN mobile application to their mobile device.

To enter Aqaba, individuals must have either received their first dose of an approved COVID-19 vaccine more than 21 days before arrival or have a negative result from a PCR test taken no more than 72 hours before arriving in the city.

Jordan's land borders with Israel and the West Bank are now open to cross-border travel.

Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.

Consider delaying traveling if experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19, as they may prompt increased scrutiny and delays.
