Event

Members of the Lebanese Association for Parents of Students in Foreign Universities plan to protest at Riad el-Solh Square in Beirut from 11:00 Feb. 15 to denounce the delayed application of the Student Dollar law, which allows transfers of up to USD 10,000 to students overseas at a lower exchange rate. Protesters claim that many students abroad are experiencing financial difficulties as Lebanese banks have blocked their transfers. Dozens to a hundred individuals could attend the demonstration.

Increased security and localized transport disruptions are likely near Riad el-Solh Square through the afternoon of Feb. 15. Clashes between police and protesters cannot be ruled out, particularly if demonstrators are overly disruptive or if they ignore police orders to disperse.
