UK: Catering staff at London Heathrow Aiport plan to strike March 4-5

Catering staff at London Heathrow Airport, UK, plan to strike 04:00 March 4-23:59 March 5; flight disruptions possible.

Informational

Event

Heavy goods vehicle (HGV) drivers represented by the Unite union and employed by DO & CO aviation caterers at London Heathrow (LHR) intend to strike between 04:00 March 4 and 23:59 March 5. During the work stoppage, the HGV drivers will not deliver supplies to customers of aviation catering provider DO & CO, which include British Airways (BA) and Cathay Pacific (CX). Unless averted, the action will probably result in some flight delays, particularly on aircraft serving long-haul routes due to contractual requirements for food to be available to pilots and cabin crew.

The strike has been called to demand an increase in pay and to protest poor working conditions.

Advice

Contact airlines to confirm status of individual flights if traveling via LHR during the announced strike period, particularly if booked to fly on British Airways and Cathay Pacific.
