UK: Ground staff at London Heathrow Airport plan to strike Feb. 11-13

Ground staff at London Heathrow Airport, UK, plan to strike 00:01 Feb. 11-23:59 Feb. 13; processing delays and flight disruptions possible

Informational

Event

Unionized ground staff, including baggage handling and aircraft refueling personnel, employed by Menzies Aviation at London Heathrow Airport (LHR) plan to strike 00:01 Feb. 11-23:59 Feb. 13 to demand better pay. The strike could be called off at short notice as a pay offer has reportedly been agreed with one of the two unions calling the strike, and the other is in the process of consulting its members over the same pay offer.

Menzies Aviation claim that any disruption resulting from the strike will be limited as only a small proportion of staff have voted to join the strike. Nonetheless, should the strike go ahead it could result in some disruptions and delays to flight schedules, check-in, and security procedures.

Advice

Confirm flight arrangements if traveling via LHR during the strike period. Arrive early to allow additional time for check-in and security procedures.
