Lebanon: Banks announce nationwide strike March 21-22

The Association of Lebanese Banks has announced a nationwide strike March 21-22 in response to judicial orders against seven major banks. The Lebanese judiciary had frozen the assets of the banks and banned six of their executives from travel since March 14. While organizers have not announced any protests, demonstrations are possible at banks and public squares nationwide.

Disruptions to business services are likely during the strike. Localized transport disruptions are possible near demonstrations in urban centers, especially if protesters march along or block roads. Clashes between police and protesters cannot be ruled out, particularly if demonstrators are overly disruptive or if they ignore police orders to disperse.
