Taiwan: Power outages reported nationwide March 3

Event

A power outage is affecting multiple locations across Taiwan as of morning March 3. The outage began around 09:00 and the affected cities include Chiayi, Douliu, Kaohsiung, New Taipei City, Taipei, Taichung, Tainan, and Taitung. The cause of the outage is unclear.

Disruptions to business and communications, including cellular and mobile services, may occur. Power outages may result in the temporary unavailability of essential services such as ATMs and petrol stations. Localized transport disruptions are possible, especially as ground transport infrastructure, such as traffic lights, will probably be disrupted in multiple areas.

Plan for additional power outages. Conserve batteries and restrict cellphone use to emergencies in case of an extended power outage. Exercise caution when driving or crossing streets if traffic signals are not functioning.
