Australia: Northern Territory eased vaccination requirements at some venues as of April 1 /update 43

Officials ease vaccination checks at some venues in Northern Territory, Australia, as of April 1. Other restrictions remain in effect.

Warning

Event

Northern Territory officials have removed vaccine requirements for sporting venues and public events with over 500 attendees in population centers and 100 people in other areas as of April 1. The government still requires a Vaccine Pass to purchase alcohol at these locations.

Local Measures
Officials have lifted a facemask mandate for most indoor settings; facemasks remain necessary in high-risk environments, such as medical facilities, prisons, and airports. There are no capacity limits for public events or companies. However, events with more than 500 participants require a COVID-19 safety checklist. The government requires individuals at large public meetings to maintain a physical distance of 1.5 meters (5 feet) from others and limit interactions with strangers to 15 minutes. Officials continue to require complete vaccination to enter bars, casinos, restaurants serving liquor, cinemas, and concert halls. Patrons can use The Territory Check-In application, a digital or printed copy of a COVID-19 certificate, or a copy of immunization history to enter high-risk establishments.

The government limits access to exclusion zones, communities that have yet to reach an 80-percent vaccination rate. Residents of exclusion zones, essential workers and their family members, and select students can travel to the affected zones but must return a negative rapid antigen test (RAT) result before entry, with exceptions for recovered COVID-19 cases. Entrants must provide a negative RAT test obtained before entering the area and an online declaration stating the individual has completed the test. A list of exclusion zones can be found by clicking here.

Quarantine Requirements
The Northern Territory permits fully vaccinated travelers to enter Australia under national guidelines without quarantine. Unvaccinated travelers must quarantine for seven days at government facilities at their own expense. The government charges AUD 1,224 for individuals and AUD 2,450 for families of two or more people. People in quarantine must undergo testing before leaving. The government requires an additional seven days of quarantine for people that refuse to test at AUD 175 per day for individuals and AUD 350 per day for families.
