Protesting members of the National Union of Educators (Union Nacional de Educadores) are causing significant transport disruptions in Quito and Guayaquil early April 28. In Quito, protesters are burning debris and blocking Avenida Pedro Vicente Maldonado, located in the south of the city. Demonstrators in Guayaquil have also set fire to debris, blocking traffic along the Via Perimetral, in the north of the city. The protesters are allegedly making salary demands.

Police will almost certainly deploy to monitor the protests. Associated business and transport disruptions in Quito and Guayaquil are likely to continue in the coming hours.
