Authorities are tightening security in Joda, Keonjhar District in Odisha State, following recent communal clashes, through at least 10:00 April 14. Clashes broke out April 11 after activists affiliated with the Bajrang Dal Hindu nationalist organization had attempted to hold a procession but were stopped by residents. Additional clashes broke out late April 12; several people have been injured in the fighting. Security forces have deployed to the town and are enforcing Section 144 orders, which ban gatherings of four or more people, through at least 10:00 April 14. Officials have also suspended internet services in Joda and some other areas in Keonjhar District. Authorities may extend the measures if further violence breaks out.

Authorities will likely maintain heightened security in the area through at least April 14. Officials may close roadways and deploy personnel near possible protest sites as a precaution. Additional communal clashes are possible. Violence will likely cause localized transport and business disruptions. Security personnel may use force to disperse crowds, including firing tear gas. Clashes between residents and police may also occur.
