Delayed reports indicate that students from two secondary schools fought in the town starting the afternoon of April 1, leaving at least two students dead and injuring 20 others. Bystanders reportedly joined the violence and vandalized and looted nearby businesses, including some at Mount Hagen Plaza. Police do not know the motivation for the violence but have warned that tensions remain high between the two groups, which also clashed March 25.
