Former militants affiliated with the Deprived Returnees Movement Committee (DMRC) are threatening to blockade the Assam-Agartala Highway (National Highway 8) in Champaknagar, Tripura, from June 5. Participants intend to demand the state government provides them with benefits promised when the militants laid down their arms. Several dozen people will likely attend the protest. Blockades at additional points along the highway are possible if the action is prolonged. Protesters may also gather at government buildings and public squares in Agartala.
