Further protests are possible in Amalapuram, Andhra Pradesh State, following violent protests that occurred May 24. Residents protested to denounce the state government's recent announcement to change the name of Amalapuram's district from Konaseema to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Jonaseema. Protesters set fire to state minister Pinipe Vishwaroop and as well as a member of the legislative assembly's residences; multiple vehicles were also set on fire. Several people have reportedly been injured amid clashes between protesters and police. Officials have deployed security forces to the city and are enforcing Section 144 orders, which ban gatherings of four or more people.

Residents may hold additional protests in the coming days. Protesters may gather at government buildings, police stations, public squares, and on major roadways. Residents may march along or block major roads in the city, including National Highway (NH) 216. Security forces will likely try to disperse any protests that break out.
