Warning

Event

The Labor Party is calling for workers from multiple unions to protest in multiple cities May 14 to commemorate May Day. The largest protest will likely occur in Jakarta, where tens of thousands of people are expected to gather at the House of Representatives building at 10:00 before holding a celebration at Istora Stadium. Labor Party leaders also plan to hold protests involving thousands of people in other major cities, including Bandung and Surabaya. Gatherings will likely occur at government buildings and public squares. The protests will occur amid ongoing demonstrations calling for fair elections in 2024 as well as demanding lower prices of essential goods.

Authorities will probably enact increased security measures at and near protest sites. Localized traffic and business disruptions are likely, as workers may occupy roads. Clashes are possible, especially if authorities forcibly disperse the demonstrators. Officials may use tear gas and water cannons to break up crowds; authorities may also conduct mass arrests.

Advice
