Activists plan to demonstrate in multiple cities across Taiwan May 8 in support of Ukraine. Tight security likely, disruptions possible.

Informational

Event

Activists plan to hold demonstrations in multiple cities across Taiwan 14:00-15:30 May 8 in support of Ukraine. Organizers have called for gatherings at Liberty Square in Taipei, Hsinchu Railway Station, and Taichung Railway Station. Dozens to hundreds of people could take part in the events.

Authorities will probably impose heightened security measures, including deploying additional personnel, at protest sites. Localized ground transport disruptions appear unlikely but may occur if protesters occupy nearby roads. Security personnel may try to disperse gatherings if they are disruptive. While the gatherings are likely to pass off peacefully, minor clashes between protesters and police remain possible.

Advice

Exercise caution near the protest sites May 8. Plan for ground transport disruptions in the affected area. Seek updated information on roads in the area and allow additional time to reach nearby destinations.
