The epicenter was around 40 km (25 miles) west-southwest of Mamuju, West Sulawesi Province. The tremblor struck at a depth of 24 km (15 miles). Light shaking probably occurred in West Sulawesi Province, while weak-to-light shaking may have been felt in South Sulawesi and southern Central Sulawesi provinces.
