Tunisia: Fuel distribution companies cancel nationwide strike June 9-11 /update 1

Four fuel distribution companies affiliated with the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) have canceled plans to strike nationwide June 9-11. The companies called off the strike after reaching an agreement with authorities over salary increases.

Context

Strikes and labor-related protests are common throughout Tunisia. Labor unions frequently use strikes, or the threat of a strike, to pressure government officials into concessions; however, most strikes are quickly averted after last-minute negotiations.
