Warning

Event

Telecommunication services disruptions are occurring across Canada early July 8. A major telecommunications company, Rogers, has reported disruptions to its services and that it is trying to resolve the issue; the timeframe for full recovery is not immediately clear. Internet connectivity has dropped by around 25 percent nationwide due to the outages; local media reports indicate the outage is affecting wireless, cable, internet, and telephone services. Disruptions to emergency call services in southern Ontario have been also reported.

Commercial disruptions are possible, especially if operations rely heavily on internet access. Communication, security, and banking systems dependent on internet connectivity may also be affected. Interruptions to online services provided by private and government entities, including app-based transport booking and food delivery, are possible. Processing delays may occur at airports.

Advice

Confirm telecommunications availability. Anticipate internet disruptions in the coming hours. Liaise with the internet or mobile service provider regarding likely restoration time.
