Officials in Tianjin are implementing restrictions in parts of the municipality as of July 19 due to COVID-19 concerns. Authorities have ordered indoor entertainment venues like bars and card parlors to close in Binhai New and Hexi districts. As of July 19, tighter curbs are in place in at least three high-risk and three medium-risk areas in Binhai New and Hexi districts. Residents and individuals with recent exposure to these areas must remain in their homes; exceptions may be possible for emergencies and essential reasons. Officials restrict travel to and from the affected communities. Authorities typically maintain measures for seven to 14 days after the latest confirmed community case and will probably carry out several rounds of testing before easing restrictions.
Individuals arriving in Tianjin must present a negative nucleic acid test taken within 48 hours, hold a "green" health code, and produce their travel itinerary. Returning residents must report to community-level officials for another nucleic acid test. Increased health screenings are occurring at Tianjin Binhai International Airport (TSN), and officials with check test results and health codes before travelers can use trains from the airport. Travelers from locations identified to have COVID-19 activity may have to self-quarantine for seven to 14 days.
Officials may extend the restrictions to other areas of Tianjin if new COVID-19 cases emerge. Strict controls, such as stay-at-home orders and closure of nonessential businesses, are possible. COVID-19 restrictions, particularly in industrial areas and economic zones, could lead to factory closures and business disruptions in the affected areas. Operations at Tianjin Port are normal but processing delays are possible if authorities impose tighter curbs.
