Civil society groups plan stay-at-home strike across Cote d'Ivoire July 19. Disruptions and related protests possible.

Informational

Event

Civil society groups, including the Alternative Citoyenne Ivoirienne (ACI), are planning a nationwide ville morte (stay-at-home strike) nationwide July 19. Activists are demanding the government address multiple security, legal, and social grievances, notably against the increasing cost of living. It is unclear how many people will adhere to the strike.

The work stoppage will likely effect business operations. Although no protests have been announced, some may occur; these are likely at government buildings in major cities. Police will almost certainly deploy to monitor any strike-related demonstrations that may materialize. Clashes are possible. Traffic disruptions are likely near large demonstrations.

Advice

Reconfirm business appointments and travel arrangements July 19. As a precaution, avoid all possible demonstrations and areas where security forces appear to be deploying. If crowds form, leave the area immediately.
