Informational

Event

Employees of the Central Bank of Lebanon plan to strike nationwide July 20-22 after security forces raided the bank's headquarters in Beirut July 19. Judge Ghada Aoun ordered the raid to search for the bank's governor, Riad Salameh, who is facing charges of money laundering and embezzlement. While organizers have not announced any protests, demonstrations are possible at Central Bank of Lebanon branches across the country.

Disruptions to business services are likely during the strike. Localized transport disruptions are possible near demonstrations in urban centers, especially if protesters march along or block roads. Clashes between police and protesters cannot be ruled out, particularly if demonstrators are overly disruptive or if they ignore police orders to disperse.

Advice

Plan for banking service disruptions July 20-22. Avoid any possible protests due to the potential for clashes. If clashes break out, leave the area immediately. Follow all security personnel instructions. Allow additional travel time near gatherings.
