As of July 28, public sector employees affiliated with Lebanon's General Labor Confederation have launched a nationwide strike through at least Aug. 2. The reason for the labor action is to demand greater pay. While organizers have not announced any protests, demonstrations are possible at popular protest locations across the country.
Disruptions to government services are likely during the strike. Localized transport disruptions are possible near any demonstrations that materialize in urban centers, especially if protesters march along or block roads. Clashes between police and protesters cannot be ruled out, particularly if demonstrators are overly disruptive or if they ignore police orders to disperse.
