Authorities in Mozambique end COVID-19-related state of public calamity as of July 19; travel measures unchanged.
Event
Authorities have lifted the COVID-19-related state of public calamity as of July 19. The wearing of facemasks remains mandatory in all enclosed spaces and on public transportation. International travel restrictions remain in place.
International Travel Restrictions
Vaccinated travelers must present an electronically verifiable proof of a complete vaccine schedule to enter the country. The last dose of the vaccine must have been administered at least 14 days prior to arrival. It remains unclear if a booster shot is required.
Unvaccinated international arrivals in Mozambique must present a negative result from a COVID-19 PCR test taken no more than 72 hours before departure for the country. Children under five years old are exempt. PCR tests must be verified via the Trusted Travel Initiative, accessible here.
For travelers arriving in Mozambique via land border crossings, a negative test result remains valid for seven days, permitting multiple entries or short-term return travel.
Passengers who test positive upon or fail to provide a negative test result must self-quarantine for seven days.
In response to government reviews, all restrictions are subject to amendment at short notice. Security forces are deployed to ensure compliance.
Advice
Follow all official instructions. Abide by national health and safety measures. Reconfirm all travel arrangements and requirements before departing. Consider delaying traveling if experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19, as they may prompt increased scrutiny and delays. Liaise with trusted contacts for further updates and guidance. Maintain contact with your diplomatic representation. Ensure contingency plans account for further disruptive measures or extensions of current restrictions.
