Unionized delivery workers on an indefinite strike across Taiwan as of July 5. Delivery delays likely; protests possible.

Informational

Event

Unionized delivery workers are staging an indefinite strike across Taiwan as of July 5. Employees from the Chunghwa Express Workers’ Union launched the action to demand wage increases. The delivery firm, a subsidiary of state-run Chunghwa Post, specializes in delivering paperwork for local banks and financial institutions.

Delivery service delays are likely for the duration of the labor action. Lingering disruptions may continue beyond the end of the strike as service providers work to resolve their backlogs.

Protests are possible during the strike. Demonstrators may gather near distribution centers, company offices, and government buildings. Reports indicate that workers gathered outside the Ministry of Transportation and Communications in Taipei July 4. While protests will probably be small-scale and not severely disruptive, minor localized traffic delays are possible.

Advice

Confirm delivery schedules for the duration of the work stoppage. Consider using alternative carriers if concerned about time-sensitive deliveries.
