A bomb hidden in a cart in the Sarkariz area of western Kabul detonated Aug. 5 leaving at least eight people dead and 18 others injured; the number of casualties may rise in the coming hours. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Authorities will almost certainly maintain a heightened security posture near the incident scene until they have fully secured the area and determined that no further attacks are imminent. Security personnel may close roadways near the blast site, prompting localized transport disruptions.

Advice

Avoid the area until officials give the all-clear. Follow all instructions from local authorities. Allow additional travel time to reach destinations in the Sarkariz area through the end of Aug. 5.
