Authorities plan to defuse an unexploded World War II-era bomb in Ludwigshafen on Aug. 17. The device was discovered during construction work at the intersection of Frankenthaler Strasse and Rohrlachstrasse on Aug. 15. Authorities will establish a 500-meter (0.3 mile) evacuation zone around the bomb effective 18:00 Aug. 17 before the operation to defuse the bomb begins around 19:30. Transport disruptions and evacuations are planned within the exclusion zone; around 7,000 residents will be impacted by evacuation orders, while rail, bus, and tram services will be disrupted. Additionally, parts of the Hochstrasse Nord Highway will be closed to traffic from 18:00 Aug. 17.
