Germany: Adverse weather forecast across parts of Bavaria through at least April 21

Severe weather forecast across parts of Bavaria, Germany, through April 21. Transport, business, and utility disruptions possible.

Warning

Adverse weather is forecast across parts of Bavaria through at least late April 21. Snowfall is forecast across elevated areas of northeast and southern Bavaria. Hazardous travel conditions are likely due to reduced visibility and slippery roads. Sporadic power outages are likely throughout the affected areas.

Orange snowfall warnings (the third-highest level on a four-tier scale) are in effect in the Hof, Kulmbach, Lichtenfels, Wunsiedel, Bayreuth, Bamberg, Tirschenreuth, Neustadt an der Waldnaab, Weiden in der Oberpfalz, Amberg-Sulzbach, Lindau, Oberallgau, Kempten, Ostallgau, Weilheim-Schongau, Bad Tolz-Wolfratshausen, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Miesbach, Rosenheim, Traunstein, and Berchtesgadener Land districts.

Officials could update and possibly extend the coverage of weather alerts over the day.

The adverse weather will likely cause disruptions to ground and air transport in the region. Traffic and commercial trucking delays are possible along regional highways. Dangerous and challenging driving conditions are likely on secondary and rural roads in the affected areas as maintenance crews prioritize clearing major routes. Authorities could close stretches of highway if driving conditions become too hazardous. Flight delays and cancellations are likely due to ground stops and deicing operations at regional airports.

Monitor local media for updated weather information. Verify road conditions before driving in areas where heavy snowfall is forecast. Allow extra time to reach destinations in these areas and carry an emergency kit and warm clothes if driving is necessary, especially on secondary or rural routes that could become impassable. Plan accordingly for delivery delays if routing shipments by truck through the affected area. Confirm flights. Charge battery-powered devices in the case of prolonged electricity outages.
