Right-wing activists and counter-protesters rallies ongoing in Leipzig, Germany, May 3. Heightened security, possible clashes.
Right-wing activists are demonstrating in Leipzig, May 3. The controversial speaker Michael Stürzenberger and the Pax Europa group are leading the event in Augustusplatz, from 12:00-18:00. Counter-protesters plan to demonstrate against the rally, denouncing it as "racist". It is not known how many will attend each gathering, however, in previous events in Leipzig, rival factions have clashed in violent scuffles.
Police authorities are likely to deploy additional resources to monitor the events. Road closures are likely in the vicinity of the rallies, leading to localized traffic disruptions. Clashes between protestors, counterprotestors, and authorities cannot be ruled out.
