Protests against IDF's ongoing military action likely to continue across Israel and the West Bank, PT, into at least mid-August.

Warning

Event

Protests in response to the Israel Defense Forces' (IDF) ongoing military action in the Gaza Strip, named Operation Breaking Dawn, will likely continue in Israel and the West Bank through at least mid-August. Civil unrest broke out in East Jerusalem, Haifa, Umm al-Fahm, Shefa Amr, and Al-Taybeh on Aug. 6, with police arresting multiple people following clashes between Israeli security forces and Palestinian protesters near the Damascus Gate. The High Follow-Up Committee for Arab Citizens of Israel has also called for popular action in opposition to the conflict without providing specific details.

Protests will likely occur in Israeli Arab towns across Israel and throughout the West Bank over the coming days. Gathering locations may include prominent public squares, city and town centers, along major roads, and near government buildings. Security forces will almost certainly deploy to monitor all gatherings. Clashes between protesters and security personnel are likely if demonstrators ignore orders to disperse or if they become overly disruptive. Clashes are almost certain to occur if demonstrators approach Israeli settlements or checkpoints in the West Bank. Counter-protests are also possible. Ground travel and business disruptions are likely near all protest sites.

Advice

Remain vigilant in all areas of Israel and the Palestinian Territories over the coming days due to the potential for further unrest. Avoid any demonstrations that may materialize. Confirm the availability of transport and allow additional time to reach destinations near potential protest sites. Heed the instructions of security personnel. Monitor local media and liaise with trusted contacts for updates on protest activity as organizers may not announce plans in advance.
