Workers affiliated with several unions, including the Joint Trade Union Movement, plan to march in Port of Spain, Aug. 12. Demonstrators are gathering at Brian Lara Promenade starting at 09:00. From there they plan to march through several streets of the city, and arrive at the Central Bank. The action is to oppose the government's offer of a four-percent salary increase. Activists are demanding higher salary increases.

Thousands are likely to participate in the march, which is likely to cause transport and business disruptions in the downtown area. Heightened security near government buildings is likely. Violence cannot be discounted, especially if protesters are overly disruptive.
