Informational

Event

Unionized air traffic controllers (ATCs) have announced that they will postpone their nationwide strike until Sept. 9. The Office of Civil Aviation and Airports (OACA) had organized the labor action for Aug. 25 in response to the government's noncompliance with several prior agreements. The announcement by the OACA came following negotiations with authorities.

Context

Strikes and labor-related protests are common throughout Tunisia. Labor unions frequently use strikes, or the threat of a strike, to pressure government officials into concessions; however, most strikes are quickly averted after last-minute negotiations.
