Event
Public mourning gatherings, business closures, and localized transport disruptions are likely across Canada over the coming days following the Sept. 8 death of Queen Elizabeth II, Canada's head of state.
The Canadian government has announced 10 days of public mourning. A national memorial parade will take place in Ottawa at a date to be announced, to be followed by a commemorative service at Christ Church Cathedral, Ottawa. Memorial events are likely to be organized nationwide by governments, public institutions, and private organizations; large events are especially likely in provincial capitals and major cities, but communities across the country will likely have memorials and gatherings. Provincial governments may announce their own public mourning protocols.
Business closures and interruptions to non-essential government services are possible. Localized transit disruptions from memorial events or spontaneous demonstrations are possible.
Advice
Plan accordingly for business and transport disruptions. Verify appointments with government services through Sept. 18, as cancellations or reduced hours are possible.
