France: Air traffic controllers' strike planned nationwide, Sept 16
Air traffic controllers across France to strike Sept. 16; flight disruptions likely. Reconfirm all flights.
Event
Unionized workers represented by the National Union of Air Traffic Control workers plan to strike nationwide Sept. 16. The union demands increased pay in line with inflation. In response, France's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC) has requested that airlines cancel 50 percent of flights arriving and departing France on that day. The DGAC is also negotiating with the European air travel regulator Eurocontrol to manage flights around France's airspace.
Unless averted, the action will likely lead to flight delays and cancellations. Further information regarding the level of disruptions will likely be announced once the degree of staff participation in the strike becomes clear.
Advice
Contact airlines to confirm flight status if booked to fly via airports in France Sept. 16. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Arrive at the airport early to prevent your seat from being allocated to a standby passenger.
