Informational

Event

The People’s Justice Party (Parti Keadilan Rakyat, PKR) plans to rally nationwide Sept. 11 to mobilize political support ahead of the lower house parliamentary elections. Organizers will hold the first major gathering at Taman Melawati Night Market near Melawati Mall in Gombak District, Selangor State, 17:00-24:00 Sept. 11. Organizers claim at least 3,000 participants will attend the gathering.

Although organizers have not yet revealed additional details concerning specific times or venues, popular sites include government buildings, public squares, political party offices, and prominent intersections. Low to moderate participation is likely in major cities of Kelantan, Kedah, Penang, Perak, and Selangor states.

Authorities will likely monitor larger gatherings and may attempt to disperse especially disruptive gatherings. Skirmishes between activists and police are possible. Activists may march along or block roadways, causing localized transport disruptions. Localized business disruptions are also possible.

Advice

Avoid any protests that materialize due to possible clashes. If clashes erupt nearby, immediately depart the area and seek shelter in a safe nongovernmental building. Plan for localized transport and business disruptions near any protests. Heed all official traffic and security advisories.
