Landlord to block access to several government offices in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, from Sept. 26 over rental payment arrears.

Informational

Event

Nambawan Super Limited (NSL) has reportedly prevented access to several government offices in its buildings in Port Moresby as of Sept. 26 due to rental arrears. (NSL) claims the government owes more than PGK 160 million (USD 44 million) in late payments. The closures are affecting the Internal Revenue Commission, Ombudsman Commission, Independent Consumer Competition Commission, Auditor General’s office, and the finance, national planning, and lands and physical planning departments. It is unclear how long NSL will enforce the closures, but the government will likely reach an agreement with the organization before paying the total rental amount.

Government and public service disruptions are likely in the coming days.

Advice

Confirm appointments at affected government offices. Plan for any upcoming business with affected departments, as backlogs are possible once offices reopen.
