Armed individuals entered the town in the early hours of the morning; violence was reported in multiple areas, including Nagamiufa. Unofficial reports indicate three people were injured and two houses were burned down. The perpetrators were reportedly denouncing the Sept. 17 murder of PNG Ports chief operating officer Fego Kiniafa.
Officials have deployed 90 security personnel to the town to maintain law and order. Further clashes cannot be ruled out in the coming days.
