The Tongan government has lifted a state of emergency, ending most COVID-19 restrictions, as of Sept. 29. Authorities have eliminated a nationwide curfew and mandates on facemask use and social distancing. However, officials encourage residents to take such precautions, and businesses can enact their own facemask and distancing requirements.

Additionally, the government has ended most border restrictions. Pre-departure and post-arrival testing requirements have ceased. Officials still require inbound passengers 12 years old and above to provide proof of vaccination before travel. Exceptions are possible for medically exempt unvaccinated travelers, who must provide evidence to the Ministry of Health.
