Uzbekistan: Increased security for the SCO summit in Samarkand, Sept. 14-17
Increased security Sept. 14-17 as high-profile dignitaries to visit Samarkand, Uzbekistan; disruptions certain.

Uzbek authorities have announced security measures throughout Samarkand ahead of the September 15-16 Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in the city. Entry to the city is to be restricted Sept. 14-17, and several roads in central and northern Samarkand are to be closed to non-emergency traffic on these dates. Traffic police checkpoints will be present on roads throughout the city.
Authorities have also announced the closure of Samarkand International Airport (SKD) to commercial flights 00:01 Sept.14 to 00:01 Sept 17. Authorities may also temporarily close airspace around Samarkand as key figures arrive and depart the city. Foreign dignitaries attending include Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
