Informational

Event

The Angolan National Teachers' Syndicate (SINPROF) has planned a series of strikes through January 2023 to demand tax rebates, an end to the privatization of public schools, and increased public funding. SINPROF released a statement Oct. 21 setting three strike periods:

  • Nov. 23-Nov. 30, 2022

  • Dec. 6-Dec. 16, 2022

  • Jan. 3-Jan. 31, 2023

These strikes may be supported by protests in the vicinity of public schools and government buildings, especially in the capital, Luanda. Heightened security and localized traffic disruptions are likely near any protests that materialize. Clashes may also occur if protesters are overly disruptive or are forcibly dispersed by police.

Context

Plan for disruptions at educational facilities during strike periods. Avoid all protests to mitigate associated disruptions. Abide by all official directives.
