Australia: Unionized nurses in Western Australia plan mass walk-out to attend organizational meeting in Perth 11:00-14:30 Oct. 12

Unionized nurses to suspend work in Western Australia, Australia, 11:00-14:30 Oct. 12 for organizational meeting.

Informational

Event

Members of the Australian Nursing Federation (ANF) plan to walk off the job in Western Australia between the hours of 11:00-14:30 Oct. 12 to attend a mass organizational meeting. The purpose of the work stoppage and meeting is to plan future labor action in the pursuit of higher wages and better working conditions. The meeting will take place at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Center; depending on the outcome of the gathering, the ANF could announce a formal strike as early as the same afternoon.

The labor action could result in disruptions to elective healthcare services at public hospitals and clinics through the end of Oct. 12; emergency treatment will likely remain unaffected.

Advice

Confirm medical appointments Oct. 12. Plan for medical service delays. Contact healthcare facilities in advance for information about wait times, which could vary among hospitals and clinics.
