Authorities in Shanghai, China, tighten COVID-19 controls through early November. Localized lockdown measures occurring.

Warning

Event

Officials in Shanghai have tightened restrictions in the municipality through at least Nov. 10 amid rising COVID-19 activity. Under the latest guidelines, officials require all residents to undergo COVID-19 testing twice weekly; district governments will implement the policy. Returning travelers must take three COVID-19 nucleic acid tests on the first three days post-arrival. Authorities will also enhance scans for inbound passengers, including at railway stations and highways. Travelers using public transport must wear facemasks and hold a negative nucleic acid test result within 72-24 hours.

Tighter controls continue in designated medium- and high-risk areas. Residents and individuals with recent exposure to these areas must remain in their homes; exceptions may be possible for emergencies and essential reasons. Officials restrict travel to and from the affected communities. Authorities typically maintain measures until two weeks after the latest confirmed community case and will probably carry out several rounds of testing before easing restrictions. Government workers usually distribute food and essential items to households under strict stay-home protocols.

Advice
