India: Civil group calls for a protest march in Shillong, Meghalaya State, Oct. 21

The Federation of Khasi Jaintia Garo People (FKJGP) has called for a protest march from Motphran to Malki Ground in Shillong Oct. 21. The group, which represents the interests of indigenous communities, intends to denounce unemployment in the state. Several dozen to a few hundred people may attend the protest.

Authorities will likely monitor the protest march and may try to disperse the gathering if it is especially disruptive. Clashes between protesters and police are possible. Localized transport disruptions are likely on roadways along and near the march route.
