Indonesia: ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting to take place at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta Oct. 27

Indonesia will host a special meeting for foreign ministers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Oct. 27. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the Myanmar peace process ahead of the ASEAN summit and related events in Cambodia Nov. 8-13.

Authorities will likely increase security in Jakarta, particularly around the ASEAN secretariat building, during the event. Checkpoints and random security checks are likely, particularly on roads leading to the ASEAN secretariat. Increased security measures are possible at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK) and Halim Perdanakusuma International Airport (HLP) during the meetings, which could cause congestion and delays in clearing customs and security screenings. Traffic delays are likely in the vicinity of the event venue, particularly during the arrivals and departures of delegates.

Anti-junta activists may attempt to demonstrate near the ASEAN secretariat to protest the Myanmar military and coup.
