Lebanon: Contract teachers plan nationwide strike and protest in Beirut Oct. 4

Contract teachers plan to hold a nationwide strike Oct. 4 and an associated protest outside the Ministry of Education in Beirut from 11:00 the same day. Participants are denouncing the dismissal of the committee chair of contract teachers. Dozens to hundreds of individuals could attend the demonstration.

Increased security and localized transport disruptions are likely near the Ministry of Education through the afternoon of Oct. 4. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out, particularly if demonstrators are overly disruptive or ignore police orders to disperse.
