Papua New Guinea: Government offices reopened in Port Moresby as of Oct. 10 following payment agreement /update 2
Government offices in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, reopened as of Oct. 10 after agreement reached on rental payment arrears.
Event
Nambawan Super Limited (NSL) has unlocked government offices in Port Moresby as of Oct. 10. The landlord reopened the buildings after a National Court ruling in favor of the government late Oct. 7. Additionally, on the same day, the government made a payment to NSL and reached an agreement with the company on a schedule of outstanding rental fees. The lockout affected buildings housing the Internal Revenue Commission, the Department of Finance, the Department of Treasury, and the Department of Lands and Physical Planning.
Although unlikely, NSL could still lock offices at short notice if the government fails to make additional payments as planned, especially after Oct. 14, when the court’s order expires.
