Taiwan: LGBTQ activists to hold pride parade in central Taipei Oct. 29

Members and supporters of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) community plan to hold the annual pride parade in Taipei Oct. 29. Activists will depart Taipei City Hall at 14:00. Participants will march along two different circular routes through Xinyi and Da'an districts before returning to Taipei City Hall. The parade is likely to draw tens of thousands of people. Organizers also plan to hold a "Rainbow Market" at Taipei City Hall Plaza 12:00-19:00.

Authorities will increase security for the event. Police will close roads on and near the march routes to facilitate the parades, including Renai, Dunhua South, Zhongxiao East, and Xinyi roads. Transport disruptions are likely in Xinyi and Da'an districts. Overcrowding on public transport is possible ahead of and after the parade.

Exercise caution around the parade route. Allow additional travel time in Da'an and Xinyi districts Oct. 29. Prepare for unannounced detours, as police may close roads with little warning.
