Tanzania: Emergency crews responding to a wildfire at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro, as of Oct. 23

A wildfire broke out at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro near Moshi Oct. 21. Officials deployed teams to attend to the fire Oct. 22. The blaze is reportedly located near the Karanga campsite. The cause of the blaze is unclear. There have been no casualties reported.

The fire is likely to result in reduced visibility in the surrounding areas. Officials could order evacuations of nearby communities and campsites to facilitate the emergency response. Increased smoke is also likely to reduce air quality in the area in the coming days.
