US: Flight disruptions likely at Southwest Florida International Airport through at least late Oct. 18 following earlier runway blockage

Severe flight disruptions likely at Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers, Fla., US, through late Oct. 18.

Warning

Event

Severe flight disruptions are likely at Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) through at least the night of Oct. 18 after an earlier incident in which an aircraft became disabled on the facility's sole runway. The incident temporarily forced the closure of RSW, leading to many flights being delayed or canceled.

Lingering disruptions will probably continue well after the airport resumes operations and could extend into the early hours of Oct. 19 as carriers reposition aircraft and work through their passenger backlogs.

Advice

Contact airlines to confirm flight status before leaving for the airport. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed.
